On a sunny day in November of 2019 I went for a walk around Waikumete Cemetery. Waikumete Hill is located in West Auckland and offers amazing views over the city towards town and Rangitoto Island.

The cemetery is the largest in New Zealand and the Southern Hemisphere for that matter.
There are many interesting areas of the cemetery, including sections that are dedicated to members of New Zealand’s Armed Forces who have been involved in a number of conflicts. Notably are the resting places of many of those who dies in WWI and WWII.

Sadly there is a monument to a family who lost 3 brothers in WWI and the fourth one was sent home, as the family had lost too many in that dreadful conflict. Lest we forget!
