On one little adventure up North I was able to go to Lake Tekapo to do a bit of Astrophotography. I’ve been there about 5 times and I still get excited to go there.
You see Tekapo has been designated as a Dark Sky Reserve. Because of its geographical location it has unnaturally clear views of the night skies. The small township has taken this further in doing their best to prevent any light pollution from humans living there. To that end all the lights are yellow (sodium) and have covers to prevent them shining upwards.
It’s a pretty scene by day and down by the lakeside there is a wee church that everyone visits and takes a photo of. It’s called the ‘Church of Good Shepherd’ and makes a nice focal point for astro photos too.
I’ve been a bit more pro-active with my photography and have been posting some pictures to various groups on Facebook. A picture similar to this (of less quality I reckon) quickly reached 3,200 likes which is very pleasing.
